2026-2027

CanSkate is even better!

The CanSkate program is based on Sport Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD) principles. This dynamic program prepares all skaters for virtually every ice sport – hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating. We use a tested and proven delivery method that guarantees skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster. Our program is taught by professional coaches who are specially trained and certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) The Program offers instruction to skaters of all ages. Skaters learn the fundamentals in a safe, active environment using a circuit-training format with professional coaches. Unlike most recreational programs there is no need to wait for a session to end in order to advance to a higher level. Skaters are continuously being monitored & advanced when they are ready.

Skaters must supply their own Skates & CSA Approved Helmets
Wearing gloves or mittens is mandatory

New This Season!

Pre-Junior

Program Overview
Pre-Junior is Saanich Skating Club's newest step on our STARSkate pathway, designed for
young skaters ready to begin their transition from CanSkate into the sport of figure skating. Built
for skaters between the ages of 4 and 7 who wish to "fast track" into figure skating, Pre-Junior
continues to build on CanSkate's Fundamental Movements while shifting the focus toward figure
skating during the canskate program. This program is a 2 day / week package that includes 45 min of on ice group
instruction, and 15 min of dryland each day.

Pre-Junior sits just ahead of our Junior program, giving younger or earlier-stage skaters a
dedicated space to build the fundamentals before moving into the Junior Program.

Requirements
A group of 5 eligible skaters who have completed Stage 4 of the CanSkate program or have
received an invitation from a professional coach is required to run this program. Figure skates
(skates with toe picks) are needed for all Pre-Junior classes.
